Welcome to Gaffney
The City of Gaffney has traditionally been recognized for two things: An iconic 1,000,000-gallon water tank known as the Peachoid; and two nearby Revolutionary War landmarks, Cowpens National Battlefield and Kings Mountain National Military Park. Gaffney is also part of the Over Mountain Victory Trail. These days, visitors have another beacon that calls from 1-85, Prime Outlets or the "yellow mall." Travelers have joked about the "wars and stores" of Gaffney, but there are worse ways to gain fame.
In reality, Gaffney is a relatively small (population approximately 13,000) and forward-thinking community that is worthy of a detour from the Golden Corridor between Greenville, SC, and Charlotte, NC. The city prides itself on delivering excellent service for minimal tax dollars. Yet; the municipality is active in commercial and downtown development, beautification, the arts and recreation. There are plenty of new attractions, but Gaffney's history is not to be denied. This Bicentennial city (as of 2004), boasts three nationally certified historic districts. Each contains beautiful architecture, picturesque scenery and reminders of the significant role the upstate city played in our nation's history.
