Recognized around the world as
The Million Gallon Peach
, the Peachoid was built in 1981 to store the City of Gaffney’s water supply. Located on I-85 in Gaffney, the Peachoid is a landmark not only for Gaffney, but also for those traveling the “Golden Corridor” between Charlotte, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina.
The state of South Carolina actually produces more peaches than Georgia, and Gaffney and surrounding Cherokee County produces one of the largest peach crops in the state. Gaffney is also home to the
South Carolina Peach Festival
which celebrated its 30
th
anniversary in 2006.
