FRIENDS OF COWPENS NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD
Concerned individuals are trying to revitalize the Friends of Cowpens National Battlefield organization. This is a group of individuals who have banded together to support this national part in Cherokee County. There are many ways that you can help. It may be volunteering your time to assist in various activities in the park, becoming involved in raising funds for various projects, or just donating money to help keep the park and activities going.
Funding has been made available to parks by the US Congress, but now it is tied closely with each park's Friends group. The Friends of Cowpens organization can apply for funding and grants when there is no other way to obtain money. Cherokee County is extremely fortunate to have at least parts of three national park areas (all of Cowpens National Battlefield, part of Kings Mountain National Military Park, and the Over Mountain Victory National Historic Trail).
At the moment, Friends of Cowpens is in need of the direction of a leader for the organization. Several individuals met recently in hopes of finding the right person, and they would like to have more members in this group.
